چکیده

The transient absorption spectrum ( ̧max D 320, 400 and 550 nm) obtained on reaction of OH radicals with 4-(methylthio)benzoicacid is assigned to a solute radical cation with a positive charge on the benzene ring. The reaction with speciŽ c one-electron oxidants also produced similar spectrum and the oxidation potential for the formation of solute radical cation is estimated to be between 1.4 and 1.6 V vs NHE. The reaction of eaq with the solute showed the formation of a transient absorption band at 320 nm and is assigned to solute radical anion with reduction potential more negative than¡1.5 V.

Radical cations of phenyl-substituted aziridines: what are the conditions for ring opening?

Radical cations were generated from different phenyl-substituted aziridines by pulse radiolysis in aqueous solution containing TlOH.+, N3. or SO4.- as oxidants or in n-butyl chloride, by 60Co gamma radiolysis in Freon matrices at 77 K, and in some cases by flash photolysis in aqueous solution. Depending on the substitution pattern of the aziridines, two different types of radical cations are fo...

Photoinduced formation of reversible dye radicals and their impact on super-resolution imaging.

Radical ions of organic dyes are highly reactive species and have been studied for decades by transient absorption spectroscopy and pulse radiolysis experiments in oxygen-depleted solution. Here we show by continuous wave EPR, absorption, and fluorescence experiments that the triplet state of rhodamine dyes can be photoreduced by thiols to form stable radical anions in aqueous solution with a l...

Application of external-cavity quantum cascade infrared lasers to nanosecond time-resolved infrared spectroscopy of condensed-phase samples following pulse radiolysis.

Pulse radiolysis, utilizing short pulses of high-energy electrons from accelerators, is a powerful method for rapidly generating reduced or oxidized species and other free radicals in solution. Combined with fast time-resolved spectroscopic detection (typically in the ultraviolet/visible/near-infrared), it is invaluable for monitoring the reactivity of species subjected to radiolysis on timesca...

COLUMN PRECONCENTRATION OF URANIUM BY 1 -(2-PY RIDYLAZ0)-2-NAPHTHOL SUPPORTED ON NAPHTHALENE USING DIF'FERENTLAL PULSE POLAROGRAPHY

A solid chelating material, 1-(2-pyridy1azo)-2-naphthol (PAN) supported on naphthalene provides a rapid and highly selective means of preconcentration of uranium from aqueous solution. Uranium is quantitatively retained on this adsorbent in the pH range 9.8-10.7 with a flow rate of 1 ml min . The metal complex was desorbed with 10 ml of 2 M hydrochloric acid and uranium is determined by d...
